Nestled in the Ribble Valley, just a stonesthrow from Whitewell, is the little hamlet of Cow Ark. This tiny village is home to potter Jan Lord. Working from home she draws inspiration from her picturesque surroundings; crafting hares, foxes, dogs, cats, horses and other animals from clay. Next month she is set to open her six acre woodland garden to the public, with thirty artists from around the region displaying and selling their work at Art in the Garden.
Jan and her husband set to work on their garden way back in the depths of January, in preparation for the event. The house is Jan’s childhood home and she is carrying on a tradition set by her parents when they opened their garden to the public.
“It is a lovely garden and it would be a shame not to share it,” she says. “Up until last year Pam Potter and Chris Mortimer ran an event called Art and Garden in Chris’s garden at Salmesbury Bottoms. When they decided last year was the last major event my husband and I decided to carry on the tradition. We plan to have a collection of accomplished artists exhibiting and selling their work. There will be a variety of ceramics, glass, jewellery, wood turning, paintings, drawings and textiles for sale.”
Visitors will be in for a treat. The forty five year old garden is set in a magnificent location and it is planted with magnolias, rhodedendrons and an abundance of specialist trees.
